Disney’s streaming service has hit the market: Disney Plus, which launched on November 12, 2019.

Disney Plus hosts family-friendly content up to a PG-13 rating. The content available on the platform includes content from Disney, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilms, Pixar, and National Geographic. As far as exclusive content goes, there will be television shows, documentaries, reality shows, nature and adventure titles, animated programming, etc. The streaming service’s library reaches around 500 films and 7,500 episodes of television.

Sophomore Jacoba Babin said, “My family purchased Disney Plus the day it came out because we were so excited as it has all our favorite Disney media. It had classic Disney and Marvel movies, Disney Channel shows from my childhood, and Star Wars; basically everything we love.”

Among the many, such as Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, and Apple Television, Disney Plus will have a slew of content. On launch day, the streaming service provided original content to be consumed. Such exclusive shows include a Star Wars spinoff called The MandalorianHigh School Musical: The Musical: The Series, live-action adaptation of Lady and the Tramp, a Christmas film Noelle, and many more. Beloved classics, such as The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast, are available to be streamed now. When it comes to theatrical releases, Disney Plus plans to be the only place you’ll be able to stream them. Motion pictures from franchises, such as Star Wars and Marvel, plan to be in theaters and home released before making their way onto the platform. By the end of 2019, most Disney content on Netflix will disappear as it’s brought to Disney Plus.

The subscription fee for Disney Plus is seven dollars a month. Subscribers can also purchase it at 70 dollars for a whole year. Individual subscriptions Hulu and ESPN Plus run on the same tech platform, so a triple service bundle has been offered for 13 dollars a month. This allows subscribers who choose to buy the bundle to be able to use the same password and credit card info. A deal between Disney and Verizon allows customers with a 4G LTE or 5G unlimited account, as well as customers of Verizon’s Fios and 5G home internet services to acquire a free year of Disney Plus. Any interested buyers can look into these deals before making the final purchase for their subscription.

In regards to her feelings about the price of a subscription, Babin said, “I feel like it’s a very reasonable price for what you’re getting, as it has National Geographic, Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and Disney Channel shows, so it really is a great price.”

Disney Plus has wide device support as it can be streamed from phones, tablets, computers, connected TVs, and streaming media boxes. The intent is to have the streaming service be supported by all major devices that stream video.

The platform already offers features that other competitors offer for a higher price on their respective streaming services. Subscribers can stream up to four devices simultaneously and create up to seven user profiles for different members sharing the account. There is a wide range of user profiles, as 200 avatars are available from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, or Star Wars characters. Members have unlimited mobile downloads for offline viewing, as well as the ability to download up to ten mobile or tablet devices with no constriction on the number of times a title can be downloaded. Though the number of titles stored depends on the actual storage of the device itself, accommodation features include closed captions, descriptive audio, and navigation assistance.

Disney Plus is among the many streaming services today but the incentive is all exclusive and provided content it offers. Folks who purchase a subscription now will be able to stream Disney content until their heart’s content.
