Game of Throne’s journey closes to an end as it’s final season began airing on April 14. The conclusion takes place over the course of six episodes in season 8.

Game of Thrones was adapted from George R.R. Martin’s best selling book series “A Song of Fire and Ice”. The epic fantasy drama was brought to life by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. HBO is the home of Game Of Thrones where new episodes currently air on Sunday.

The show’s storylines follow numerous families from the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and Essos. There are nine noble families who include house Stark, Lannister, Baratheon, Targaryen, Greyjoy, Arryn, Martell, Tully, and Tyrell. Each family has a different dynamic with the Iron Throne. Families want to conquer the iron throne or gain freedom from it as it represents the control of the monarchy in Westeros.

The series can be divided into three important storylines with numerous minor storylines in-compassed. In the land of Westeros, a battle of the lords from the families of Stark, Lannister, and Baratheon fight for the power of the iron throne. Daenerys Targaryen, the last living member of an exiled family, tries to regain her throne by establishing an army in the land of Essos. The third plot takes place in North Westeros where a 300 mile long, 70-foot-tall wall is guarded by the Night’s Watch, which defends against the unworldly creatures.

After nearly two years since season seven ended, audiences are able to watch the finishing storylines unfold. This is a warning as the first two episodes of season eight will be recapped hereafter.

The long awaited first episode of season 8 had many components. At the beginning, Daenerys Targaryen, her army,and Jon Snow returned to a wintry Winterfell. The remaining Starks were all reunited at last, as they had not been all together since Jon left for the Night’s Watch. Throughout this episode the Starks were not the only ones reunited because Sansa Stark and Tyrion Lannister, Arya and Gendry, Arya and the Hound, Theon Greyjoy and Yara Greyjoy, and Bran Stark and Jamie Lannister all shared screen time together. When Sansa met Daenerys tensions ran high because of Jon’s new found loyalty and relationship with Daenerys. Rounding out the episode Sam Tarly tells Jon the truth about Jon’s real heritage, which will impact his character for the remaining episodes.

The second episode of the season revolved around the characters and the day before they face death. As the has wall had fallen and the Night King accompanied with the White Walkers could reach Winterfell in any moment. This episode explores how the characters are faced with their possible last day and how they decide to spend it.

At the beginning, Daenerys held a trial for Jamie who murdered her father and the questioning of his loyalty to their allegiance. Daenerys and Sansa have a heart-to-heart, but not exactly as at times they fake support, Sansa wasn’t the North to remain free of the Seven Kingdoms, and Sansa’s the first to point out Daenerys’s mistake of trusting Cersei. The War Council has a discussion surrounding the plan to kill the Night King, but they don’t exactly have the ultimate method. The rest of the episode focuses on the different groups dealing with the impending threat of the Night King. Highlights are Arya’s and Gendry’s unexpected romance and when Jamie performed Brienne’s knighthood. As the episode comes to a close Daenerys corners Jon, which he’s been avoiding her since the news, he tells her the truth. With not much time to process the Night King has arrived with his army and the viewers are left with wanting the next episode.

Game of Thrones has had quite a journey and will continue until that last episode on May 19th.
