Food is always a topic of discussion in our everyday lives, and recently, one certain food has been brought to everyone’s attention: the fried chicken sandwich — and it has created a huge debate. Many people claim different fast food restaurants have the best chicken sandwich, such as Popeyes or Chick-Fil-A as the main competitors. McDonald’s threw their hat into the ring with their three different kinds of chicken sandwiches, as well. KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) has also tried a chicken sandwich their way, and Wendy’s remade their chicken sandwiches to make them taste even better than before. I went to five different fast food restaurants to taste test their chicken sandwiches and grade them. The places that I went to are McDonalds, Chick-Fil-A, Popeyes, Wendy’s, and KFC. Here are the results!

First off, we’ll start out with the last place chicken sandwich. This one belongs to McDonalds. Their claim for their chicken sandwich is that it’s supposed to be crispy, juicy, and tender, but the sandwich struck out on all three. The presentation of the sandwich wasn’t very good either, as it seemed that the entire sandwich was crushed and thrown together at the last minute. The chicken sandwich itself was also dry, and the breading was nothing to be desired of. The two pickles tossed on were a good touch, but not enough to save this sandwich.

In fourth place, we have the KFC chicken sandwich. McDonalds was the only outlier for terrible taste out of these five sandwiches. The rest were all good, but to an extent. KFC, known for their chicken, makes a good chicken sandwich. The basic toppings are mayonnaise and pickles, which go perfectly with the thick cut of chicken that is breaded very nicely. Depending on how you’re feeling, you can go for a spicy mayonnaise variety too, but I stuck with the regular chicken sandwich just for the sake of consistency.

Clocking in at third place will be Wendy’s chicken sandwich. It’s a classic chicken sandwich that has a nice piece of crispy chicken. Wendy’s puts more on their chicken sandwiches compared to the other restaurants. Pickles line the bottom bun where some mayonnaise, lettuce, and a sliced tomato top off the sandwich. The sandwich was juicy and hot when I received it, which made it much more enjoyable from its burger-place counterpart.

Not surprisingly, in second place, we have the starter of the war. Popeyes clocks in at number two for me. The chicken sandwich is a simple, very crispy piece of chicken topped with either regular or spicy mayonnaise and pickles. Since it was the starter of the chicken sandwich war it had to be a good sandwich, and it very much was. Popeyes did not disappoint.

On top, we have the place with the never ending line. Chick-Fil-A takes the number one spot on the chicken sandwich list! Chick-Fil-A goes light on the toppings, only putting pickles on their basic chicken sandwiches. The lack of toppings is made up by the thick, juicy cut of chicken breast used for these sandwiches. When eaten fresh, this is the best chicken sandwich in a landslide. Without a debate, Chick-Fil-A is the winner, winner of the chicken sandwich dinner.
