In exclusively theaters only, Eternals debuts the newest ensemble of heroes. The MCU quite heavily expands it’s universe within this story directed by Oscarwinning writer-director ChloéZhao.

Unlike any other project among the MCU so far, Eternals offers a wide scope perspective on immortal beings who have secretly roamed the earth for thousands of years. Due to being instructed by powerful cosmic beings called Celestials, they are only to help humans when evil creatures named Deviants are present. After some centuries without an attack involving the Deviants, they begin to reappear causing the Eternals to reunite to stop them while taking on a bigger force known as the “Emergence.” The ten Eternals within the immortal group are Sersi(Gemma Chan), Ikaris (Richard Madden), Ajak (Salma Hayek), Thena (Angelina Jolie),Gilgamesh (Don Lee), Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), Druig (Barry Keoghan), Kingo (KumailNanjiani), Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), Sprite (Lia McHugh). A prevalent human addition is Dane Whitman (Kit Harington), who at the Natural History Museum works with Sersi in London.

Unfortunately, it has not faired too well among critics while general audiences are finding the movie quite enjoyable. It has received the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score out of any film in the thirteen year spanning history of the MCU though rotten tomatoes scores hardly reflect any true audience consensus. A preconceived notion about the film has been going around because of critics that Eternals is the worst Marvel movie ever. It is quite interesting to note the distaste that is going around from critics when the movie encompasses a diverse range of characters and elements we have never seen in an MCU film before. It’s important to remember to not base your opinion on the movie from another’s opinion before you give it a watch. I’ve seen many general audience reactions and reviews that expressed their honest and elated view of the movie.

Eternals is a wonderful movie that is diverse with character portrayals. The movie incorporates and embraces people from all walks of life organically within the fold of the story. The large,well-rounded group of heroes therefore, strengthens the impact of who they align themselves with later on. A fantastic element is that the Eternals are a family with dynamic connections, personalities, and powers that has spanned time. With an understanding of the dynamic of each relationship it establishes an emotional weight that anchors the last act. It seems impossible to not fall in love with a least one character from the bunch because each actor successfully brings a great performance. I found myself really caring for the relationship between Thena and Gilgamesh and Makkari and Druig throughout the film. The story pairs characters and explores dynamics that enhance the great concept of the bond forged between individuals that share rich history together. The visual and cinematography is stunningly beautiful and well worth the watch in a theater on a big screen. There are many aspects of this move to take great joy in whether from the action sequences or to the fascinating character storylines. This movie was such a delight to see in theaters, but the overall expansion to the world of the MCU is invigorating to explore.

It’s been a long wait for Marvel’s Eternals, but Marvel’s biggest undertaking in now out in the world. I highly suggest anyone to go give this movie a watch in a cinema near you!
