Mrs. Skvorak is the new 9th and 10th grade ELA teacher, and this is her 3rd year teaching. Previously, she taught for a year at Whiting and Bishop Noll. So far, she enjoys working at GHS and loves the staff. Skvorak was a former student of GHS’s principal, Mr. Chance. Skvorak enjoys the environment here at GHS. She claims that her old school’s Google Classroom was better than Schoolology, but overall, she loves it here. She said that reading and writing skills stick with you long after you graduate, and “reading and writing stick with you like a ghost on your shoulder.” Her classes are beneficial to students’ future since she includes teaching how to write college resumes and applications, job applications, and emails. She also said that reading documents and legal papers is very important, and she helps encourage students to challenge themselves and read more clearly. She loves her students and has had many great experiences with her classes. Right now, she has just finished reading and watching Of Mice and Men with her sophomore students. She said her first year teaching the movie made a group of students cry when watching the ending. Her sophomore students are now in the middle of a unit about differences and disabilities. The unit includes reading stories about immigration, people with disabilities, and aliens being bullied by humans for being different.
