At Griffith High School, a new Assistant Principal was hired. Mrs. Kinnie has been in education for 22 years, and this is her first year in administration. Mrs. Kinnie started her teaching career in Stockbridge, Georgia, as a 4th-grade teacher, then she moved to Northwest Indiana and became a teacher at Gavit High School. She went to Morton for 2 years, then came to Griffith. Mrs. Kinney helps out with the students who attend the Area Career Center because of her background in the School City of Hammond. She came to Griffith because she worked with both Mrs. Anderson and Mr. Chance at Gavit. Her biggest inspiration is her mom because she has a background in education. Her mom retired as Highland’s own superintendent. “She would take me to her school plays, and that’s why I got into education.” She works on advisory projects with instructional coaches and deals with the sophomore and junior discipline. Her favorite part of her job is interacting with people in the school. She likes working at school because her children are in a school system, and she knows what it’s like being a parent and a teacher. If you ever see Mrs. Kinnie in the hallway, give her a wave!
