Mrs. Larson is the 11th-grade speech teacher, journalism, honors English, and the yearbook and Panther Press classes. This is her fifth year teaching; she previously taught at Highland High School. Larson has recently taken the Panther Press and Yearbook instructor role and has been working with students to create spreads, record podcasts, and write stories. After school, she sponsors the school’s GSA club with other fellow teachers and has enjoyed being a mentor to students whether she teaches them or not. As the school year goes on, Larson says she noticed the school spirit here at Griffith was much more prominent than in Highlands and has enjoyed seeing students celebrate their school. But one thing she added was, “I had to adjust to the forty-five-minute bell schedule.” Adding, “It was really hard to change how I was doing things and how I was able to help students one-on-one.” Her ups are better than the downs, and Larson says she values the relationships with her students. The publications staff was out of order after the previous adviser was promoted and could no longer teach the class, and Larson stepped in when the staff was concerned. She has been able to keep up with the stress of running a four-person press as well; the press was rough at the beginning of the semester, but after some guidance, she is up to speed! Larson wants all her students to be prepared for the world ahead of them, college, or their future. That’s what she strives to help.
