The Middle School Griffith Theater Company performed “The Wizard of Oz” on February 2-4, becoming the fourth most watched play the school has ever put on.
The play was directed by Mr. Ramos, with student director Sara Oprisko. Together along with assistant directors, Mrs. Parker, Emma Kidd and Diana Groben, they made the show what it was. “The play went better than anticipated,” said Mr. Ramos. Actor Charlee Prutsman, who played the Wicked Witch of the West, remarked that she wouldn’t have done anything differently if she could.
This performance did not come without difficulties. Mr. Ramos’ parent’s dog Peanut, who performed as Toto, would sometimes lay on the floor during rehearsals and even during the play. There were several instances of Peanut needing a nudged for it to move. However, the dog never ran around or acted out, mainly due to its training as a house pet. Other than that, “production went pretty smooth,” said Sara Oprisko.
Overall, the play was a big success, bringing the theater company a good amount of funding. It also attracted over one-thousand audience members, all thanks to the wonderful acting of the cast and the hard work of the crew. This play will go down in the Theater Company’s history as the most popular middle school play.
