Griffith Jr./Sr. High School’s Unified Track team recently participated in a historic first-ever event on Saturday, April 13th, held at Elkhart High School. This event saw the team participating in a series of events including the 4×200, the 100-meter dash, the 400-meter dash, shot put, and long jump.
Griffith’s team put on an impressive performance, securing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in different heats of the 400-meter dash. They also managed to secure 3rd and 5th places in the 100-meter dash, ultimately placing 10th overall at the meet.
The event was praised for its positive and heartfelt atmosphere, with Ines Batista, a member of the Griffith team, commenting, “I really liked the environment around this meet; it was very positive and heartfelt. I’m glad I can be a part of this at GHS.”
The meet saw an outpouring of support from fans and other teams, with the president of Unified Sports, Brian Avery, introducing a new event for student-athletes to run. This event, the 4×200, had never been run before at any Unified Track meet in Indiana. After the event was introduced, all the coaches immediately accepted the challenge.
Griffith’s team rose to the occasion, with a strong lead from the start in the 4×200. They managed to keep this lead until the finish line, ultimately securing 1st place in the first-ever 4×200 in a Unified Track meet.
The event was hailed as a resounding success, with many looking forward to future events and the continued growth of Unified Sports.
