The Griffith Theatre Company will present “Frozen Jr.”, the first sixth-grade musical production in many years, at the Griffith High School auditorium from January 31 to February 1.
Director Mr. Joseph Ramos, a middle school social studies teacher, has been making sure this theatrical performance is the best it can possibly be. Now, with new speakers installed in the auditorium, the musical also has nice, crisp audio for the cast and audience. However, due to the larger size of this performance compared to previous middle school productions and how stressful it has been, one must ask if the musical lives up to the expectations that last year’s “Wizard of Oz” production set.
A few things did not go as planned during the musical production. For a brief moment, some costumes were misplaced, but they have since been located. Kendal Olechnowicz, the actor playing Elsa, said there have not been many issues, and a lot of “telling kids not to mess around backstage”.
“I’ll say it has been quite stressful. There’s a lot that goes in[to producing a play]”, Ramos said. Even with the stress he bears, Ramos doesn’t let it get to him and still puts his best foot forward.
Vocal Director Mr. Vincent Dore and Choreographer Ms. Sara Jongsma help lighten the load with their expertise and direction. “You have vocals and choreography, so that helps me because I don’t have to be at every rehearsal”, Ramos said. “But that causes problems because if something happens, I don’t know about it”.
Doors will open on Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1 at 7:00-9:30, with the last performance on Saturday, February 2 at 3:00-5:30. Tickets will be $9 for general admission and $8 for kids ages 2-12.
