Griffith Panthers played against whiting in their latest conference game on Feb 3rd, against the oilers-putting up 72 points to whiting 14.
In classic Panther fashion, Griffith came into this game with one motive. To win. From the start, the Panthers pressured Whiting, forcing four turnovers in just three minutes. The Panthers were quick to capitalize on Whiting’s turnovers, going on a 20 to 3 run by the end of the first quarter.
This game was a true showing of Griffith’s defense. Going into the half, Whiting only scored ten points. Gianni Feaster quickly racked up 3 steals, in just one quarter, boosting the Panthers momentum leading into halftime. “Our goal to start was to put our gas on the pedal and not look back.” Said, Head Coach, Josh Belluomini.
Coming out of the half, Griffith had the same plan, quickly going on a seventeen to zero run. This game was over by the third quarter as the Panthers were up 54-11. By the time the fourth quarter rolled around, the Panthers had gone on another run, this time ending the game 72-14.
As the season narrows towards the end, the Panthers look to finish the next five games strongly. When asked about the goal for finishing this season, senior Jakhari Mackey said, “Our main goal was to win our conference this year. We came short of that, and now we must move forward, so we can bring home a sectional championship.”
The Boys Basketball team will play their first Sectional game against East Chicago at E.C. on March 4.
