Sophomore Grace Pinkelton and Senior Aubrey Miller-Ramirez participated in the first Indiana State Girls Wrestling Meet on January 17 at Corteva Coliseum in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Miller-Ramirez’s record was 23-5, placing 4th at regionals but not at state. Pinkelton’s record was 22-2, placing 6th and finished as the regional champion.
The girls improved throughout the season, but Miller-Ramirez believed that she could have done better if she were more prepared. “If I would have set myself up better and got in the right mindset, I would have done better at state,” Miller-Ramirez said.
While wrestling, Pinkelton’s thinks about moves she could make and, “fixing my technique and how I can win. Sometimes I get mad at myself because I think of ways I could have done things better.” Pinkelton also said she had to wrestle people stronger than her and was not used to that.
The girl’s wrestling coach, Chris Pajdzik, has been a coach for Griffith for many years, but this year he was the head coach. Pinkelton said that she likes her coach and he “helped me throughout the season with my strength and a lot of training.” Some of the training includes lifting and drills.
Even though the girls’ wrestling matches are done for this season, they still practice year-round with their first match set for early November 2025.
