GRIFFITH, Ind. — The Griffith High School softball team won its first game of the season against Merrillville High School on Tuesday, April 1, at 4:30 p.m.
Cheyanne Fant pitched in the first inning, recording three outs. During Griffith’s turn at bat, Brylie Bridges hit a home run. “The offense was very powerful for the opening game,” Fant said.
The team’s success isn’t solely due to the players — the coaches play a significant role as well. “The coaches are very supportive and uplifting and push us to do our best,” Fant said.
The coaches have the team practice every day to ensure continued improvement. That hard work paid off, as the final score was 19–1 in Griffith’s favor. “It looks like the team will have a better outcome this year,” several players said.
If the team continues practicing with the same intensity and the coaches keep pushing them, the season outlook appears promising.
