The Griffith High School theater and choir programs held their annual awards night on Thursday, May 15, in the school auditorium. The ceremony celebrated students who demonstrated exceptional effort and contributed to the success of both programs throughout the year.

Awards ranged from “Rising Star” to “Most Improved,” but the most prestigious honor in the high school choral program is the National School Choral Award. Choir director Vincent Dore spoke about the selection process.
“When choosing a student, we pick someone, of course, who is a talented vocalist and performer, but also someone who shows a love for our program, the members who are a part of it, and the art of choral music,” Dore said.
This year’s recipient was senior Paige Hale. “Paige shines when she is the lead, as we all know from her performances in the Griffith Theater Company, but also, she is fantastic at adding those extra details when she is in the background that make live theater so electric,” Dore said.
For the middle school choir, Dore selected eighth-grade students who show a passion for music and singing, work well with others, and help support younger students who may feel nervous.
Freshman choir student Naomi Durall reflected on the evening. “The awards were very fair. It was up to the teachers who had seen us sing all year to decide who wins what, so I think the winners were fair,” she said. “It showed how good of a teacher Mr. Dore is and how much the students achieved since the beginning.”
Theater director Jenna Parker shared insight on how winners were chosen within the theater program.
“We decide our award winners based on work ethic, dedication, talent, and attitude. The directing staff offers up candidates, and we vote as a group,” Parker said. “Awards night is always fun because it celebrates our achievements from the whole season. It’s fun to reflect on everyone’s accomplishments, and also, we get to learn about what choir is accomplishing as well.”
The annual Theater and Choir Awards Night continues to be a meaningful tradition, celebrating individual recognition and reflecting on a successful year for both programs.
