As the school year begins, seniors are setting goals that range from improving their grades to winning scholarships. Three seniors, Jolisa Castillo, Ventris Tetter, and Nevaeh Vargas, share their goals, life plans after graduation, and the activities they are leaving behind as their high school careers come to an end.
Castillo’s goals for this year include: making new friends and getting more involved in school activities. She plans to go to a Paul Mitchell School to study cosmetology. Castillo has been a dancer for nine years. She describes her senior solo as bittersweet “because dance has shaped the person I am today.” Castillo said, “My main goal is to be the best version of myself and not have anyone tell me how to live my last year of high school.”
Tetter has goals in and out of the classroom. Tetter says his main goal for the football team is to be all state and all conference this year. One very simple goal he has for academics this year, he says is, “I just want to pass high school.” He’s still undecided of if he wants to go to college for football or go into trades. Tetter will miss the football team the most: “the football team has been a source of peace and family for the last four years I will miss everyone on that team.”
Vargas’ main goal for her senior year is to raise her GPA. Vargas already has a good idea of where she is heading after graduation, which is either Purdue West Lafayette or Purdue Northwest. She is really looking forward to her senior season on the softball team, but, also never wants it to end. She says, “The sport has really shaped me every year.” While Vargas is ready for college, she will also miss everything about high school, “I will miss it all honestly, while high school was hard at times, it also gave me so many wonderful memories.”
