Griffith Athletics announced on August 11, Kelly Greer will be stepping down from GHS as Assistant Athletics Director. Olimpia Tienstra, will handle the daily operations in the interim.
Kelly Greer resigned effectively on August 22, 2025. This information came suddenly and surprised all of Griffith Public Schools. Greer has been at Griffith for three years and has uplifted and set a good standard for GHS sports, bringing in many new head coaches that have helped in raising the integrity of the school and producing positive records across the sports teams.
Until further notice, Assistant AD Olimpia Tienstra will be handling all athletic related events, along with Assistant Principal Brian Jennings to help anywhere as needed, until another Athletic Director is hired.
When asked about her decision Greer said, “I needed to prioritize my personal life. Being an Athletic Director is a 24/7 job, and I needed to take a step back.” Greer originally came to Griffith in August of 2022, previously working at Whiting High School as the Athletic Director, even having some history in coaching volleyball for many years. Better yet, she also has a collegiate resume, consisting of being the men’s and women’s head volleyball coach at Calumet College of Saint Joseph.
While Greer didn’t reach all her goals while at Griffith, she said that her biggest accomplishment “was raising the integrity of the Athletic department and creating many relationships with the student athletes.” While Greer does eventually plan on coming back to the sports world, her plans right after her departure on Friday, Aug 22, will consist of taking time to herself, enjoying her personal life and spending lots of time with her baby granddaughter. Good luck to Mrs. Greer!
