Griffith Jr./Sr. High School and Performance Services broke ground on April 8, 2025, on a new aquatic center on the south side of the school. The addition is designed to support student athletes and provide a safe space for the local community to enjoy aquatic activities.
In April 2025, Griffith Public Schools began construction on a new swimming pool to replace the current 60-year-old facility, which has been out of use for two years. They are building a brand new building for the pool and putting a new indoor practice turf in the old pool room.
The pool will have eight lanes and will be open to the public after school hours. The administration is planning on offering more water activities like water polo, swimming lessons and competitive swimming.
Junior Tyler Drozd said, “I think the pool is a great idea, so it brings people closer and attracts people to Griffith.”
This pool isn’t just for sports. GPS aims for the pool to be a source of high-quality water for students and the community to swim in, while also bringing the community closer together.
The construction of the pool is projected to be complete in October 2026.
