Griffith, Indiana — Students at Griffith High School returned for the 2025-2026 school year, and with every new school year comes new trends, but do students care about trends anymore?
With high school back in session it would be expected to see some drastic new trends grasping the class of 2026. With some surprising developments, the high school population shows that more students either care less about trends or have decided to tone down the bold statements made with their fashion choices.
The newest trend is so small it’s practically unnoticeable. Child’s backpacks are now in style with seniors, made as a statement “to show off their growth as a person,” senior Victor Scortino said.
Senior Emoni Neal said, “fashion trends are more of a yearly tradition during the back-to-school time.”
Students finally understand the option that approaches them as they wake up. They either decide to dress to impress, or they dress for their comfort, and students have decided their trend of choice is comfort. “I would rather dress comfortably than follow trends,” senior Clarence Wright said.
He isn’t the only student choosing comfort. “When I wake up now, I usually just put on whatever I have that’s comfortable,” Scortino said. This choice is crucial, and seniors have chosen, and they choose their style for themselves.
What is mainly used as fashion trends this year are joggers, Ugg slides, Birkenstocks and Adidas Sambas. Most seniors at Griffith High School have stated that they have been noticing those trends, but fashion trends with young adults today are relaxed so it’s difficult to know if someone is following a trend. Some have even been apprehensive like with the recent summer craze, Labubus, ranked one of the most hated fashion trends. “Yeah, I hate them,” Wright said.
Students have stated that no matter what, they are dressing for comfort, and if a fashion trend just so happens to coincide with them, then it’s just trendy. It’s a moment of self-actualization and a time for seniors to dress how they choose instead of following a crowd.
