Griffith Girls’ Soccer Routs River Forest on Senior Night

GRIFFITH, IN –– Griffith Girls Soccer defeated the River Forest Ingots in a shut out, 13-0, on Wednesday, September 10 to close out Senior Night.

With scoring coming from across the roster, senior captains Morgan Von Ogden and Miriam Avalos led the way. Griffith struck within the first two minutes and never looked back, with its longest scoring drought lasting only 13 minutes as the Panthers averaged a shot about every two minutes.

The Ingots forfeited the game with 19 minutes remaining, as at that point they had almost no bench, and knew they were not going to come back.

The Griffith Girls Soccer Team has been set up for success. Even though they are losing Avalos and Von Ogden, the team still has a bright future ahead of it.

“You have to help the underclassmen, you gotta teach them the rules, let them run the team sometimes and get them prepared for the future,” said Avalos. “I really enjoy this team, and I’m really gonna miss them.”

The Panthers have started off their season with five wins and three losses with hopes to make a run in the playoffs. As they get into the bulk of their season, they are determined to work and try their hardest to win.

Parker Hecht, Tech Manager

Parker Hecht is a Junior here at Griffith High School, and is in his second year in Panther Press. He is the Tech Manager for the Press and is a pro at working the drone to record all of Griffith’s special moments. Parker joined Panther Press because he thought that it seemed fun and laid back. His favorite thing about being a part of Panther Press is doing all the different aspects and being busy. Parker is also an athlete as a pitcher for the GHS baseball team. If he could have any job, he would be an MLB player, which has been his dream since he was six years old. If anyone could describe Parker, they would say he is very outgoing and always smiling.

Peyton Conner is a Junior at Griffith High School. She is a new member of the Panther Press staff and is the Photography Editor. Peyton likes to express herself through activities such as photography and working on the yearbook. Her future goals include studying photography and media. Peyton’s dream job is becoming a photographer in the NFL or MLS; she tends to flip flop on her sleep schedule, never really deciding to either wake up early or stay up late. Peyton excels in English but also enjoys History class. She was the 2024-25 President of the Pub Hub and sees Publications as her life. Peyton spends her time making sure her stories and photos are perfect.
