Griffith boys’ soccer shut out Washington Township, 3-0, on Tuesday, Sept. 16, with special recognistion for this year’s senior players.
The Panthers struck late in the first segment, moving quickly to score their opening goal and never letting up. Senior Emmanuel Balderas and junior Diego Moyo provided all of Griffith’s points, combining for 19 goals so far this season. Balderas finished the match with two goals, while Moyo added one goal and two shots.
The victory marked another statement win for Griffith, which has now recorded four matches this season with three or more goals. The Panthers have been hot since late August, boasting a 5-1 record with two even matches.
The evening also served as Senior Night, with the Panthers honoring their graduating players before kickoff. Each senior was introduced alongside family members and recognized for their years of hard work and leadership.
“Senior Night has always been a big day for our team, as we have a lot of seniors who have been dedicated throughout this team’s ups and downs,” senior captain Joshua Lukas said.
Balderas has anchored the Panthers’ offense this year, averaging 1.3 goals and 0.5 assists per game.
“I’m hoping to keep this momentum up, rising up to big moments, allowing my team to rise up with me to boost our overall morale,” Balderas said.
