What started as a small 10-by-10 petting zoo has grown into more than an acre and a half of attractions. Scheeringa Farms, a family-owned business originally founded by Lambert “Bill” Scheeringa, is now operated by the third generation of Scheeringa sisters: Jenny, Jeannine and Janille.
The Farm Stand, which opened in 1967 in the family’s front yard, has expanded into one of the farm’s main attractions. This fall, customers can find an assortment of fruits and vegetables, including fall mums, straw, hay bales, Michigan apples, heirloom pumpkins and homegrown tomatoes.
Scheeringa Farms offers several weekend activities this fall, including the Ghost Phone, Corn Pit, hayrides and the Barrel Train.

Inside the greenhouse, fresh apple cider is made daily, and apple cider and pumpkin donuts are back for the season. Community members look forward to the treats each year, and local schools often sell them as fundraiser items.
“In the fall, we transform the greenhouse into fall-themed activities so when the weather isn’t the best, visitors can still come, play and have a good time,” Vanek said.
Many local schools also visit the farm for field trips and participate in seasonal activities.
“They get a hayride, go on the bounce houses, visit the petting zoo, eat lunch here and receive a pumpkin on the hayride,” Vanek said.
