Actress Sandra Oh and actor Andy Samberg hosted the 76th annual Golden Globes took place on January 6th at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, CA. Sandra Oh, Lady Gaga, Rami Malek, Nicole Kidman, and many more made appearances on the red carpet that night. Amongst the many winners were movies Spider Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Green Book, and TV show The Kominsky Method.

Spider Man: Into the Spider-Verse won the Golden Globe Ambassador for best animated film. African-American and Puerto Rican protagonist Miles Morales becomes the Spider Man of his dimension while crossing paths with other Spider Man counterparts. Diversity played a big role in the creation of the characters. The rational was that anyone could be behind the mask; they just have to be courageous and altruistic when helping others.

Bohemian Rhapsody won the Ambassadors for best drama motion picture and best actor in a drama motion picture. Bohemian Rhapsody beat A Star Is Born in the motion picture category. Lead Rami Malek, who portrayed Freddie Mercury in the band Queen, was widely recognized for his role, which landed him the award for best actor in a drama.

Green Book was nominated for five awards and won three: Mahershala Ali for best actor in a motion picture, musical or comedy motion picture, and screenplay of a motion picture. The film was in fact up against Rhapsody for musical and or comedy, and still came out in the lead.

Micheal Douglas of The Kominsky Method won best actor in a musical/comedy, and the movie itself won best musical/comedy TV series. Alan Arkin was nominated for best supporting actor in series/miniseries, but lost to Ben Whishaw from A Very English Scandal.

Many more critically acclaimed movies and TV series also won numerous awards, but these were some highlights of the night. Tune in to ABC network on Sunday February 24 for this year’s Oscars awards show.
