Griffith alumni Kody Hoese has been tearing it up at the University of Tulane and is now considered one of the top third baseman prospects of the 2019 MLB draft.

As a senior at Griffith, he hit .388 with four home runs with 29 RBIs (runs brought in). He also hit 14 doubles, a triple, and scored 30 runs. Hoese was also on the 2016 baseball All-Area Team. Additionally, Hoese was in the top 10 of his senior class and got a full ride to Tulane.

Fast forward to his freshman year at Tulane. He hit .213 with 10 RBIs in 44 games.

“I chose Tulane because I wanted to play in the south and I liked their coaching staff,” said Hoese.

“It’s different in that the competition is better and every team you play is pretty good at the college level,” said Hoese on the difference between high school and college baseball.

The next year, he started all 58 games for Tulane at third and batted .291 with five home runs and 31 RBIs. That same year he was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 35th round of the 2018 MLB draft but didn’t sign. During the summer, he played in the New England Collegiate Baseball League for the Newport Gulls, hitting .283 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs in just 38 games.

Currently the 6’4 200 lbs junior is batting .392 with 23 home runs, 19 doubles, and 60 RBIs. Hoese was named American Athletic Conference player of the year and Golden Spikes semifinalists.

Hoese is now the 27th ranked prospect to watch for the 2019 draft. As of right now the Chicago Cubs are eyeing Kody Hoese.

Monday, June 3, 2019 with the 25 pick of the MLB draft the Los Angeles Dodgers select Kody Hoese from Tulane University.
