Panthers Claim Their First Victory of the Season

Saturday, January 8, the Griffith Panthers took on the Wheeler Bearcats, a very important game for both teams. The starting lineup for the Griffith panthers was A.J Hatch, Odeh Issa, Alex Ladendorf, Jakhari Makey, and Peyton Thomas. Griffith started the game off knowing that this game was important especially because it was a conference game. Griffith has a tough schedule for the next three games going up against the LaPorte Slicers (6-4), the Hanover Wildcats (4-6), and the Crown Point Bulldogs (8-3).

Griffith, with their first win of the season, blew out the Wheeler Bearcats with a score of 65-33. Led by 6’4 center Peyton Thomas, who finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Griffith is now 1-6 for the season and hope to see improvements moving forward. Panthers also had contributions from senior guard, Allen Resendez with 16 points and 4 assists, and freshman center, Jakhari Makey with 9 points including a dunk. Freshman Jakhari Makey said, “I felt good going out there helping my team and getting a win. The energy was slow at first but at halftime we locked in and got the win with only holding the wheeler bearcats to 3 points scored in the 3rd quarter.”

Wheeler with the loss yesterday move to 1-9 and 0-4 against their conference. Griffith holds on and stay home to play LaPorte at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 11th in the main gym.
