On Saturday November 5th Griffith High School’s Director of Technology, Ms. Dragomer ran the Indianapolis Monument Marathon in Indianapolis. This was not her first big race as she did a triathlon in early August.

Dragomer has ran many other distances leading up to the marathon including 5k, 10k, 10 miler, and a half marathon. She has expressed her enjoyment for running saying, “Running is great for mental health. I love running outside.”

When asked about her preparation for the marathon, Dragomer says, “It takes months to train for a marathon even though my fitness level was very good.”

A marathon is a 26.2 mile run and therefore takes a lot of training to prepare for.

Dragomer stuck to a consistent weekly training schedule including Cross and strength training on Sundays and Wednesdays, walking/resting on Monday, taking a run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, resting Fridays, and ending with a long run on Saturdays.

When asked about her schedule Dragomer says, “I loved training for the marathon. I love having a schedule each week while training for my next event. It made it easy to know what I needed to do each day.”

Dragomer gives advice to any new runners or people who want to get into running saying, “Start with walking and then just start adding some running – don’t set expectations too high at the beginning. The most important thing is to be consistent with your training. Distance will come with consistency. Also never compare yourself to other runners. You do you. Compete only with yourself.”
