Have you ever heard of Top Ten at the G? To be in the top ten, you need to have one of the highest ten GPAs of the senior class after the first semester. The highest GPA is considered the Valedictorian and second after that is considered the Salutatorian. This year’s Valedictorian is Zachary Boswinkle, and Salutatorian is Kayla Doctor. The rest of the top ten is as follows: Sarah Issa, Eleanor Amezcua, Thomas Bernhardt, Thomas Bukowski, Gavin Lukas, Benjamin Carrillo, Alicia Martinez, and Joseph LaPatra to round out the list. Not many schools consider the top ten any longer, but Griffith has continued the tradition of academic competition.
As a bonus to being top ten, these students are honored with a special dinner hosted by the National Honors Society. The dinner will take place on April 24, at Jedi’s Garden, and the event will include a slideshow and individual awards. Each student selects one Griffith Public Schools staff member, with an addition of two adult family members.
Boswinkle offers a piece advice for students looking to be top ten. “Take advantages of the opportunities that are provided. For example, I really took advantage of dual credit classes that could really put you ahead. It gives you credits for classes you would take in college. You can save so much money in the future for not having to take those classes.”
