Rebecca Starks is a new teacher this year at Griffith high school.
Ms. Starks transferred from Southridge Elementary School, where she was a third-grade teacher. Starks decided to make the change to Griffith after seeing all the events that happen in our schools; also, she and her children went to school here. Ever since she was young, she dreamed of becoming a teacher. However, instead of continuing her job as a third-grade teacher, she chose to become a Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) teacher.
She felt LRE teaching was the most fitting job for her after she took a few subbing opportunities at Beiriger Elementary for special education teaching. “I hope that I can make kids want to come to school and want to learn,” she said. “LRE teaching is so important, everyone deserves the same chances to learn. Every student learns in a different way, so it’s important they are given that opportunity.”
Starks grew up in Griffith, and outside of being a teacher, she coaches both the middle and high school dance teams. She also enjoys watching local live bands around our town as well.
Happy first year, Ms. Starks!
