For twenty-two years, Mr. Perez has been a teacher. During his teaching career, he has taught at five different schools: Lake Central, Bishop Noll, East Chicago High School, Hammond Clark, and Griffith High School. Although he had previously taught Spanish at Griffith from 2016 to 2020, he returned to teach at Griffith again after Mr. Jennings had informed him about needing another Spanish teacher. He has very fond memories of his time here at Griffith and made the decision to move back to Griffith for his family.
Before becoming a teacher, he was a soccer coach at Bishop Noll. His inspiration to teach came from his experiences of coaching. While he was coaching, the players would come up to him for advice and encouragement. Later, he earned his teaching degree from Purdue University.
Mr. Perez is proud to be born and raised in East Chicago, where he holds dear to his heart. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his two children. He mentioned how much his children mean to him. Although he retired from coaching three years ago, he still has a deep passion for soccer.
In the last 2 years he was at Griffith, Mr. Perez served as the sponsor for the International Club, which gives the opportunity for students to travel and experience the world. Upon his return, Mrs. Wencloff (a science teacher and the International Club sponsor), had asked him to be the co-sponsor of the International Club, to which he agreed.
Have a wonderful year Mr. Perez!
