Crossroads YMCA is expanding across Northwest Indiana, with new developments underway in Schererville, Crown Point and Gary as the association continues to grow its facilities and programs.
Based on 2025-26 rates, membership costs vary by location at the Southlake/Crown Point, Griffith, Hammond and Schererville branches. Southlake and Schererville have the highest rates, while Griffith’s rate is generally the lowest. All branches charge a $50 joiner’s fee.
The growth includes a Schererville YMCA expansion into Jak’s Warehouse, which received board approval and is now in progress. The Schererville YMCA was announced in August 2021 and officially opened in late December 2021. The expansion will add a welcoming entrance and membership area, a new fitness center, larger group fitness studios, kids zone and kids club spaces, three full-size courts for indoor sports and expanded parking.
Sophomore Amarion Hatch, a Griffith High School boys basketball player, said the changes would encourage him to attend more often.
“I like how it’s going to get bigger, and there’s going to be more activities to do because there is going to be more space inside the building,” Hatch said. “It would make me start going more because I would like to hang out with my friends.”
In Crown Point, the Southlake YMCA opened in October 1997 and expanded in 2003, growing from 23,000 square feet to 39,678 square feet. According to Crossroads YMCA, another expansion is planned for early 2026 north of the current property, adjacent to the outdoor sports fields, wrapping around the ponds.

The expansion will include new recreational and advanced youth sports leagues; an expansion of the Rich Parks Outdoor Sports Complex with an additional turf field, outdoor restrooms and concessions, and a walking path around the pond; a fieldhouse with courts for basketball, volleyball and other court sports, along with concessions and meeting rooms; and a pickleball center with dedicated indoor and outdoor courts.
Sophomore Daniel Ntete, another Griffith High School basketball player, said basketball is what draws him to the Crown Point location.
“My favorite part about the Crown Point YMCA is that I get to go there and do what I love to do the most, play basketball,” Ntete said.
He said he would add more courts because he feels there are not enough for everyone whowants to play. He also said he would replace the floors or rims because they are not the best.

A new Gary YMCA at the Tolleston Opportunity Hub is also planned through a partnership with the Crossroads Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Indiana and Methodist Hospital. The hub is expected to open in fall 2026 and aims to support youth development and community health needs in the Tolleston neighborhood.
The Gary Tolleston YMCA would primarily serve kids and families in Calumet, Griffith and Gary. If successful, it could provide an alternative for those who feel the Griffith branch is too small or the Schererville branch is too far.

Lowk dubs I think I would love it there. It seems like all the Ymca’s are expanding and becoming better but I feel like the Griffith Y should add a pool.
