The Annual Griffith Central Market began on Friday, May 15, and reoccurs throughout the summer until September 28. The festival brings communities together and welcomes bands, vendors, and plenty of food options.  

Food is the main attraction, with many small businesses choosing to sell there. Stephanie Silva, vendor, explained why she chooses to sell at the Griffith Market. “We love being apart of the community we live in, meeting new people, and being a part of something bigger than us,” Silva said. Her and her family run their lemonade stand as a team and believe it helps connect customers to one another. 

Leilah Williams, sophomore, attends central market every Friday. She feels it’s a great environment to bond with friends and meet new people. “The environment feels very welcoming, and my favorite stand is [Crown Creamery]. The owner is so friendly, and I look forward to seeing the new ice cream flavors every week,” Williams said. A welcoming environment leads to bonding between people in the community. 

In addition to the food, small vendors selling crafts, jewelry, and other items also set up shop there. This gives the community the option to walk around, eat, and shop.  

Many community members plan on returning to the fest throughout its time here, with Sophomore GeMal Walker returning frequently to hang out with friends, said, “We don’t really hangout during the week and Friday fest is that one day that we really do.” Walker also says bonding with friends is what makes him return every week.
