On Sunday, February 10, at precisely 7pm, the GHS Paranormal society investigated their very own Griffith High School. From the auditorium to the cafeteria kitchen, members experienced many frights. They used professional apparition hunting gear, such as an SLS (structured light sensor) camera to detect figures and an EVP (electronic voice phenomena) recorder which listens for sounds

First, the group investigated the infamously haunted auditorium. They started downstairs in the green room under the stage. High school resource officer and group leader Pete Ghrist and sophomores Aubrey Wallace, Kylee Grumbles and freshman Genesis Sandoval conducted the first EVP of the night in the sitting area, while sophomore Katie Bilka went into the paint room with noise canceling headphones to try and listen for spirits. “My favorite part of the night was getting to see a figure quickly move past the us downstairs while observing using the SLS camera,” said Ghrist.

Next, they went on the stage and took a few more EVPs and experimented with a few other new devices like the OVILUS5b and Mel Meter8704-TIR. The OVILUS was an electronic device which has a few features, like an energy sensor, ability to illustrate spirits nearby and turn faint sounds into words. Some notable phrases identified were “hurt children,” “February evening,” and names like “Gail” and “Jo”. The SLS camera detected an orb flying around the house and even followed Ghrist. The Mel Meter was supposedly able to detect and distinguish the presence of an apparition from a human, which worked well: many spirits presented themselves!

Lastly, the group traveled to the deep depths of the cafeteria, its kitchen, and also stopped by FACS teacher Shannon Scheidel’s classroom. Some of the kitchen staff has reportedly witnessed the large freezer door open and close all by itself and asked Ghrist to investigate for spirits. While searching, the OVILUS detected the phrase “starve” and name “Gail” (for the second time). Inside Scheidel’s room, the group set up the SLS camera and conducted another EVP session. During that time, the SLS camera caught a spirit standing amongst the four girls before it disappeared. Sophomore Theressa Marlow, who also came along on the trip, said she felt a ghost reach out and grab her arm while sitting in the corner of Scheidel’s room.

All in all, this trip was “one of the best,” as Grumbles put it. There will be another investigation held at the high school again in a couple of weeks, and many more investigations at other places in the future.
