On Friday, May 3, the junior class hosted the 2019 annual Prom dance at the Halls of Saint George in Schererville with the theme of “Love In a Photograph.” The theme colors for the dance were sage green, champagne, and cream with gold accents. Tickets this year were sold online at myschooldance.com.
Doors for the dance opened at 6:30 p.m. to take professional pictures; picture hour started at 7:00 p.m. and dinner started at 8:15 p.m. The dinner included chicken, mostaccioli, mashed potatoes, corn, and salad. The music was provided by Music Boyz. The dance ended at midnight.
To prepare for the dance, junior class council met through the month of March to help plan the theme and make sure all of their ideas went into effect. Sponsors for junior class council are English teachers Kristina Collard and Kay Orzechowicz. After many votes and indecisiveness, the class council was able to agree on all the prom plans.
Halfway through the dance, prom court lined up to be announced on stage. Last year’s winner, senior Aaryana Cano and junior class president Paulo Chur (last year’s king, senior Diego Sanchez, was unable to attend prom) announced and crowned this year’s winners. Juniors Taleah Alvarez escorted by Curtis Carter, Jenna Dye escorted by Andrew Garcia, Emily Kruhaj escorted by Ricky Nunez, Yanette Martinez escorted by Julian Sepulveda, and Nayeli Vasquez escorted by Rashod Shaw. Dye and Shaw were announced and crowned this years prom queen and king. They danced to the crowning song “Speechless” by Dan+Shay.
“I was scared to be on stage and speak in front of everyone, but I honored to crown the next king,” said Cano.
