Nicholas Sanchez, previously a student at Hobart High School, is one of the many new teachers that came to Griffith High School this year! His journey had only just begun once he graduated from Valparaiso University. During college, he was still trying to figure out what he wanted to teach! He had previously considered teaching Spanish, French, or Music before finding out what his favorite subject to teach was. After graduating, he became a student teacher for Mrs. Hernandez (the band teacher). Once he was student teaching for a bit, he decided to stick with teaching music.
Although this is his first-year teaching, Mr. Sanchez is already making a massive impact for Griffith. Not only does he teach students at Griffith High School, but he also moves around and instructs the students at Wadsworth and Beiriger Elementary Schools.
Mr. Sanchez spoke about how kind the teachers and staff are. He had felt very connected to the community and school. Mr. Sanchez chose Griffith High School, he said, “Since I was a student teacher for Mrs. Hernandez, I was familiar with the school, and had also enjoyed talking with my colleagues. I ultimately chose to teach at Griffith.”
After school hours, he uses his free time listening to classical music and to the artist Laufey. He also shared that his favorite instrument to play is the French Horn. Later on, he revealed that his second favorite instrument is the harp because he said that it sounds beautiful.
Mr. Sanchez is an extremely outgoing person, always cheerful, and willing to help others. He makes sure that everyone feels comfortable and safe while they are in his class. Although he declared his love for the color yellow, his room is full of the color green.
Have a wonderful year Mr. Sanchez!
