As winter break approached, Griffith Senior High School celebrated the holidays early with their classes and school clubs. In the last week of school before break, the school clubs decided to celebrate with their students. Some clubs even planned to volunteer at food drives and shelters.
Sara Novak, who teaches culinary and is the FCCLA sponsor (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), had a meeting after school on December 10 to organize blessing bags, which were donated to Lake County Child Services. These blessing bags were given to children who have been taken away from their homes. FCCLA also had a mini Christmas meeting on December 12 to talk about upcoming events in and out of school.
The English Academic Super Bowl had an after school party on December 20. During that party, they talked about what they have read so far and how they like the texts that they have read so far.
Since there were choir and band concerts to get into a festive spirit, Jenna Parker and the Drama Club decorated the auditorium. They put up decorated Christmas trees and hung Christmas lights and garland along the stage.
DECA made holiday baskets and gift bags for local daycares. DeAngela Brewer, attendance and DECA sponsor, decided to have the students volunteer at a food drive for those who were not able to buy enough food for the holiday.
On December 10, Art Club met up to make ornaments for their Christmas trees and for decorations around the classroom. They planned to have another meeting to make more Christmas decorations for their homes.
Booster Club held an ugly sweater day on December 19 to celebrate for The holiday. After Christmas Break, the club will decorate for winter sports. Along side Booster Club, Student Council and Best Buddies also had separate Christmas parties.
