The Griffith girls’ bowling team came to post-season undefeated. Reaching to sectionals, Griffith girls’ and the Highland boys’ bowling team became Sectional Champions and qualified as first to move to Regionals on January 11, 2020. Runner ups for Regionals were the Griffith boys’ and Lake Central girls’ bowling team. Juniors Morgan Schoon, Elisabeth Lawson, and Brianna Langel along with Sophomore Chelsea Matthews made singles as they moved to Regionals for the top 8 girl bowlers. Junior Nathan Ward and Sophomore Edward Olszewski made top 10 singles for the boys side and moved on to Regionals.

Regionals took place on January 18, 2020 as the Griffith girls and Highland boys became Regional Champions. The Griffith boy’s had a wildcard (a drawing to see if they can move on) to see if they made it to Semi-state, which they took. Junior Morgan Schoon and Chelsea Matthews became top 11 to move to singles bowling at Semi-state. Moving onto Semi-state on January 25, the Griffith girls once again took Semi-state champions. The Griffith boys followed in pursuit advancing to state. As for the singles bowling, Morgan Schoon and Chelsea Matthews were top 9 taken to State as singles bowling.

On February 1, 2020, the Griffith girls felt major pressure as this was the first time since 2007 that the girls team had made it to state. The Griffith boys made state last year but missed cut by 37 pins. Following the singles state, Schoon became State singles Champion and Matthews to follow in third place. Moving onto team bowling, the Griffith girls made stepladder cut falling in third place. Coach Linda Olszewski was excited, but nervous.

“I was a bit scared of us not being champions. Even being there at state for the first time in 13 years is a big deal. We all were set on becoming state champions,” Olszewski said.

They had to bowl two games against two teams. In the end, Griffith girls had taken up as State Champions. The Griffith boys didn’t make cut and were not placed in top 3. On June 19-22, 2020 the Griffith girls will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio to complete in Nationals.
