The Griffith Lady Panthers faced off against the Hammond Bishop Noll Warriors on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Panthers just came off a 2-2 draw with Highland while Bishop Noll went into the game with a 3-game winning streak. Despite the momentum of Bishop Noll, the Lady Panthers led by 2 goals from Miriam Avalos and one goal from Desirae Gonzalez, won over the Warriors 3-1. In the first half, Griffith received a penalty kick which was taken and scored by Desirae Gonzalez to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead to end the first half. Early into the second half, the Lady Panthers struck again with a goal from Miriam Avalos to put Griffith up 2-0. Shortly after the Bishop Noll score, Miriam Avalos scored a brace putting Griffith ahead 3-1, which ended as the final score. When asked about her contributions to the team as a freshman Avalos says, “It makes me feel good about myself and my soccer ability to have such a positive impact on my team and be able to help my team win games.” The Lady Panthers next matchup is a conference home game on Saturday against Hobart at noon.
