The Griffith Lady Panthers faced off against Morton on Monday night, which was also celebrated as Griffith’s senior night. The game highlighted the seniors, Allison Gonzalez, Maya Perez, and Chloe Smith with a ceremony at halftime. The seniors were announced and celebrated as they walked down the field accompanied by their family members. Each senior was given a basket and flowers provided by the team to commemorate the night. When asked how senior night felt Allison Gonzalez, who is a first year senior on the team, said, “Senior night was such a fun experience and I am sad to see the season come to an end. Even though this is my first year playing, I really enjoyed being a part of the team and seeing everyone on senior night.” For Allison it was her first year playing soccer, other seniors have awaited this night for four years, while previously watching older teammates experience their own senior night. Maya Perez, a senior who has played all four years, said, “Senior night made me think about past years and seeing those seniors go through and think about how I get to be the one that the underclassmen will miss and remember, though the sadness of the being done won’t hit until sectionals.” After the ceremony of the seniors, the Lady Panthers got refocused and won the game 6-0. Two of which were scored by seniors Chloe Smith and Maya Perez to add to the senior festivities. The Lady Panthers next matchup is a sectional contest against Boone Grove on 10/6.
