Over the past weekend, our Griffith Boys Basketball Team traveled to Hobart to take on the Brickies in the first game of the year for the Panthers. The starting lineup for the Panthers consisted of Cameron Chandler, AJ Hatch, Gianni Feaster, Colton Strezo and Jakhari Mackey. These five led a 12-1 start to the game before a timeout from Hobart with threes made from both Strezo and Feaster. The half concluded with a breakaway dunk from Jalen Wilson to give the Panthers a 30-19 lead at the half. Despite a valiant comeback from the Brickies, Savon Miles’ 17 points off the bench and AJ Hatch’s eight-assist performance pushed the Panthers to 1-0. The incredible first quarter, coupled with their ability to fend off the aggressive press and stress of the late-game situation, showed great character from the team. Savon Miles led the team in both scoring and rebounding with 17 points and 6 rebounds and had a game-high 3 steals. AJ Hatch had a game–high 8 assists and 4 points as well. Gianni Feaster was the team’s second-leading scorer with 12 points. Chandler and Strezo both added 9, Wilson added 7, and Mackey 4. The Panthers next matchup is an away game this Saturday against conference opponent Lake Station.
