GRIFFITH, IN — The junior class boys faced the senior class in a volleyball match on April 23, with the match ending with the junior class winning two sets to one over the seniors.
The juniors won the two sets with final scores of 7 to 25, and a close set of 23 to 25. In that second set, the juniors came back all the way from a 19 to 5 deficit, defying odds and winning the set to finalize their victory.
“I definitely thought we would win, but not as easily as we actually did,” said Junior coach Miriam Velez. “We worked a lot on team chemistry, and I think we won because ours was better.”
The juniors had fewer players on their roster, which proved to be an advantage as they were a closer group than the seniors.
Along with having fewer players, most of the junior boys were from the boys’ soccer team, which only added to the chemistry. The seniors were more diverse, which was the most coming from the baseball team, and only three at that.
“Our chemistry was great,” said junior player Mason Salazar. “I knew we would dominate, the way we played, it was a lot of fun.”
Overall, the junior class should be very happy, and the seniors should be glad about the opportunity. Now, everyone should start with the preparation for next year’s powderpuff volleyball match.
Incoming juniors may want to watch out, as the next-year seniors will be back and more than ready.
