HAMMOND, IN—Recently, students for Teresa Cooper’s environmental science class took a trip to Hammond Gibson Woods for a nature preserve half-mile hike on April 23.
Students also participated in a Conversation Career Day where students got to interact with professionals in their current careers. They asked questions about their careers and lifestyles for an assignment that Cooper assigned for them.
Students also got to talk with people from the Indiana Department of National Resources and Student Conservation Association. Students learned about jobs that are worthy of the environment and that there are jobs out there you can do without having to go to school for it. Cooper feels as if the students really enjoyed their time while on the trip due to all the questions they ask.
Before the trip happened, students begged Cooper for a field trip so they could learn a little more about the environment. She gave her input on what she thought about the trip: “I think the students felt very interested while being on this trip considering they were asking for a field trip.”
Cooper thinks students learned new things about the environment and jobs while on this field trip. She believes that students will use what they learned on this trip in the future.
Cooper made sure students were able to make these achievements while on this trip so that they were not just doing anything. Students made sure they took a lot of notes for the assignment Cooper assigned for them. Cooper did not have to pay for anything on this trip, but the bus ride, so the trip was free for them.
