The Griffith Theatre Company presented its spring musical, Catch Me If You Can, with performances May 1-3 in the auditorium. Griffith Jr./Sr. High School students also attended a preview performance April 30 during the school day.
Set in the 1960s, the musical follows teenager Frank Abagnale as he cons his way through life after running away from home. Throughout the story, Abagnale poses as a pilot, doctor and lawyer while the FBI attempts to track him down.
Cast and crew members spent months preparing for the production through after-school rehearsals and independent practice at home.
“The hardest part of theatre I’d say is lack of rehearsal time since I’m in both sports and theatre,” freshman Charlee Prutsman said. “So, it’s up to me to practice on my own.”
Students involved in theatre said the program offers more than acting opportunities, helping them form friendships and connections with one another.
“The family bonding keeps me interested in theatre,” senior Nicholas Grahovac said. “I know it might be corny, but when I first joined theatre, they made me feel like they were a first family.”
Director Jenna Parker congratulated the cast and crew following the performances.
“Congratulations on a fantastic show,” Parker said. “Keep dreaming, keep creating and with a little bit of ‘India Ink,’ and a lot of imagination, you write the next chapter of your own story.”
