The 2018 World Series was one to remember. It had two of the best teams: The Boston Red Sox and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Both teams were very difficult to beat during the season. The Red Sox included star players such as Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez, Jackie Bradly Jr., Chris Sale, and David Price; three powerful hitters and two dominant pitchers. The Dodgers key players such as Clayton Kershaw, Yasiel Puig, Justin Turner, Corey Seager, and Cody Bellinger: Four talented defensive players and some say the best pitcher in baseball.

In game one of the series, the Red Sox hosted the Dodgers at Fenway Park. Pitching for the  teams were Chris Sale for the Red Sox and Clayton Kershaw for the Dodger’s. Two amazingly talented pitchers that dominant on the pitchers mound. The game was close until the bottom of the seventh inning when pinch-hitter Eduardo Nunez sent a ball into the left field stands to give the Red Sox a 3-run lead. The Red Sox then held the Dodgers through the last two innings and won 8-4.

For game two of the seven-game World Series, the Red Sox hosted the Dodgers again. Pitching for the Red Sox was David Price and for the Dodgers was Hyun-Jin Ryu. Price has been in the League for 13 seasons now, while Ryu has been in the league for only five seasons. Price has much more experience than Ryu and was probably more comfortable than his opponent.  The Red Sox struck first in the 2nd inning with Xander Bogaerts’ double off the left field wall, which led to him scoring off an Ian Kinsler single. The Dodgers answered in the 4th inning with two runs from Yasiel Puig and Matt Kemp. The Red Sox came alive in the 5th inning, scoring three more runs, and later on winning the game 4-2.

For game three, the Dodgers needed to win in order to not be down 0-3 to the Red Sox in the World Series. Now, the Dodgers hosted the Red Sox at their home field, Dodger Stadium. Pitcher for the Dodgers was Walker Buehler and for the Red Sox was Rick Porcello. Game three of the World Series was the longest game of the series, lasting 7 hours and 20 minutes. It became the longest Fall Classics contest ever. Eighteenth innings later, the Dodgers ended up winning with a walk-off home run hit by Max Muncy.

In game four of the World Series, the pitching matchup between the two teams was Rich Hill for the Dodgers and Eduardo Rodriguez for the Red Sox. It was a scoreless game through 5 innings until the Dodgers scored four runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Red Sox weren’t going to go down without a fight. They ended up scoring three runs in the top of the 7th inning. The next inning, the Red Sox were able to score another run to tie the game 4-4. During the top of the 9th inning, the Red Sox were able to score five more runs. With the Dodgers down by five runs, this was their last chance to comeback. The Dodgers ended up scoring two more runs, but lost to the Red Sox 9-6.

The starting pitchers for game five were Clayton Kershaw for the Dodgers, and David Price for the Red Sox. To start the game, the Red Sox scored two runs in the top of the 1st inning. In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Dodgers were able to score the one run bringing the Dodgers down by one run. The Red Sox were able to score three more runs in the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings, and were able to hold the Dodgers to their one run. The final score was 5-1, Red Sox winning the World Series.

“I was excited for this World Series because it was the Dodgers second time going back to the World Series and I wanted the Red Sox to win. It was a good series between the two teams,” said junior Julien Sepulveda.
