Griffith Hosts Tri-Meet

On Tuesday, April 6th, Griffith High School hosted a track meet against Calumet and Bishop Noll High School. The meet began with the throwers. Junior Isiah Wallace placed 2nd in discus for the men and junior Jaecy Nelson placed 1st in shot and discus for women. Junior Cameron Thompson started his meet off with a 2nd place finish in the long jump.The 4x800m was up next, and this is when the men and the women both take 1st against there respective competition. In the first heat of the 100m, Thompson took 2nd place and senior Cyrus Williams took 3rd place. Sophomore Amaya Hatch placed 3rd in her heat of the 100m women, and Junior Lacy Edwards also won the 300m hurdles. In the 1600m, otherwise known as the mile, Senior Jonathan Baxter won a close race between a runner from Calumet High School. This race was separated by just a few seconds. 

“All throughout the meet I had to keep in mind the events I had later in the day. I couldn’t run at my absolute max, because I had to make sure to keep my energy up. I also made sure to do my stretching before and after every race. In the 2 mile specifically, I tried to keep an even time for each lap and each mile,” said Baxter.

Sophomore Nina Zielke won the women’s 1600m, and senior Maverik Nelson came in 2nd in the men’s 800m. Sophomore Lily Wroblewski won the women’s 800, while sophomore Ashley Taylor came in a close 2nd in the 800m. Hatch also placed 2nd in Heat 1 of the women’s 200m. The meet finished with Baxter winning the 3200m in a blowout win. For the men’s side, Griffith came in 3rd behind Bishop Noll High School who placed 2nd and Calumet High School who placed1st . On the women’s side, Griffith placed 1st in front of Bishop Noll who placed 2nd and Calumet who placed 3rd.
